Thinking Pulitzer Prize and hoping to bring down a President, D.C. political columnist Rachel Armstrong writes that the President ignored the findings of a covert CIA operative when ordering air strikes against Venezuela. Rachel names the agent, Erica Van Doren, a woman whose young daughter is in Rachel’s son’s class at school. The government moves quickly to force Rachel to name her source. She’s jailed for contempt when she refuses. She won’t change her mind, and the days add up. Chaos descends on Van Doren’s life as well. First Amendment versus national security, marriage and motherhood versus separation. What’s the value of a principle?

Film Review

A stupid soap about a jailed soccer mom journalist who takes her personal policy of never revealing sources to the point of absurdity: she suffers in jail, she sacrifices her Family, her son , her marriage on the altar of the holy principle of all "real" journalist in the world, not to reveal sources. Even as a murder happens, the iron and sturdy Jeanne d'Arc of journalists stays with her policy to protect her whistle blower and stays in prison. Even the "bad" guys then can't stand to see her suffering any further and let her go finally. The audience then "learns" how hard live can be when you are a Saint. You see close shots of crying children eyes, close shot of a "desperate" Kate Beckingsale who is, as usually, not acting but her make up does the job for her. You get soap drama with embarrassing chicks-in-prison scenes…all of that as a clumsy attempt to generate a good vs. evil parable which shines thru the otherwise completely mes…

I couldn't believe such low-budget movie would be so great. Movies involving government, conspiracies and these things are usually too Hollywood and involves action– two things I dislike. Rachel Armstrong is an ethical journalist who risks her own life in favor to her honesty– which is extremely admirable, even thought I'm very honest I can't state I would be that brave. "Nothing But the Truth" shows how destructive the American prison system can be and how we should be thankful for the life we have out of there. From the subject of this film, we imagine there's going to be a BIG conspiracy involving who told the secret to Rachel, but in the end we find out it was just an innocent child, and the honest reporter still didn't reveal it. All in all, this is a great movie that reveals Kate Beckinsale as a promising actress, congratulations!

The journalist, Rachel Armstrong (played well by Kate Beckinsale) refuses to reveal her source of information as to who blew the cover of the CIA undercover agent, who happens to be another woman, Erica (Vera Farmiga). Sticking to her ethics of not revealing the source, she is made to pay the price: imprisonment, separation from her family, the CIA operative named is killed, her own husband looking the other way, not being even able to see her own beloved son. In short, her whole life just crumbles! It is only at the end of the movie, one comes to know the original source of her story: the small daughter of the CIA operative herself! It is amazing to see how people are willing to put everything to risk to stand by the truth. Rachel could very well have revealed the name of the little girl and perhaps nothing much would have happened. Yet she chooses not to for she had to keep her own word. What's engaging of this movie is that everyone in it is right! There is nobody who is the &…
